1 step closer to the bookshelf

Hello, sweet friends! 🌷 Spring has sprung!

It’s been a little while since I’ve popped on here to share an update about my picture book journey, and oh my goodness… what a season it has been! We are so close. Like, “pinch me, is this real?” close.

Today, I received my preliminary final draft (!!!). I made just a couple of small corrections, sent them off, and now… it’s almost go time. I truly cannot believe I’m typing those words. This dream that once lived quietly in my heart is getting ready to exist out in the world—in your hands. 📚💛

And can we take a moment for my illustrator, Sandie?
She is oh-so talented in a way that feels almost magical. It’s as if she can reach right into my thoughts and bring them to life on the page. Every time I see a new illustration, I find myself smiling and thinking, “Yes… that’s exactly it.” Having someone who shares the same vision has made this process even more special. 🎨✨

Since the last time I wrote, I’ve also dipped my toes a little deeper into the world of Instagram. What started as simple book updates has slowly grown into something more thoughtful and intentional. I’ve been learning (a lot!) about how to share in a way that supports both my book and my life as a teacher.

I’m still growing my little corner of the internet, but I’m reaching more people, seeing more views, and building something that feels meaningful. And very soon… many will get to celebrate a book launch with me. 🌿

I’ll be honest—doing all of this on my own can feel like a lot sometimes. Researching marketing strategies, creating posts, planning content, making reels and carousels… it’s a whole world in itself! But little by little, I’ve found a rhythm—a routine of what to post and when—that makes it all feel a bit more manageable (and even fun!).

And here’s a part I’m especially excited about…

I’ve started creating posters using quotes and illustrations from the book—something teachers can print and hang in their classrooms to bring the story to life beyond the pages. 🖍️ I’m also working on Book Companions filled with activities for K–2 students to use before and after reading. My teacher heart is so happy dreaming these up, knowing they’ll help children connect more deeply with the message of self-love.

This journey has stretched me, challenged me, and filled me up in ways I never expected.

And the wildest part? The next time you hear from me… I’ll be a published author. 🌟

With so much gratitude,
Ehmsee Shane
