Big Whirls, Bigger Wins

School has been back in session for just two weeks, and let me tell you—it’s been a whirlwind! Between lesson plans, students, and the general back-to-school buzz, my mind has been in a thousand places at once. Still, even with the busy start of the school year, the Baton Books journey hasn’t slowed down one bit. In fact, some really exciting things are happening!

Business-y Grown-Up Things
(That Still Feel Magical)

An LLC and bank account have been opened (fancy, right?), a payment device is officially activated (beep-boop—ready for sales!), and posters are flying out into the world and being posted on classroom doors and walls! Even more exciting, every single person who has purchased a poster will be forever celebrated as part of the “Founding Supporters” list. You’re not just buying a poster—you’re making history with Baton Books!

Taking Baton Books
to the Streets

This September, I’ll be stepping out into the community as a vendor at our local fair. Picture me, stationed at the brewery patio, surrounded by posters, flyers, and big smiles—spreading the word about what Baton Books is all about. I can’t wait to meet people face-to-face, share my vision, and feel that hometown energy fueling this dream. This is the town I grew up in, that I teach in, and that I’m proud to be a part of.

The Biggie:
Illustrations are LOCKED IN

This might be my favorite update of all: I officially handed Sandie (my wonderfully talented illustrator) the map, the manuscript, the downpayment, and the shiny signatures needed to seal the deal. It’s happening! She’ll begin illustrations in November, and as her magic comes to life, supporters will get sneak peeks of what their kindness and generosity is helping to create.

“But…How Will You Make Money?”

Ah yes, the million-dollar question (pun intended). Here’s the truth: I won’t. Not yet, anyway. Every penny from the first book goes right into making the next one, and the next, and so on. This isn’t about quick returns. This is about kids. About teachers. About parents. It’s about creating tools and stories that families and classrooms genuinely need and want.

I have so many ideas bubbling up for the future—companion activities to go with the books, more posters, stickers, bundles…the list goes on. Think of it as Baton Books planting seeds now, so we can grow.

My Heart is Full

Every encouraging word, every text, every “Hey, I’m so happy for you” message has been fuel for this journey. I’m so grateful for the love and support surrounding Baton Books. Truly, I couldn’t do this without you cheering me on.

Here’s to the next step, the next poster, the next book—and to every little reader whose world will be touched along the way.

Baton Books is marching forward—baton in hand, heart wide open, and imagination ready to run wild.
